A Caregiver's
Workshop: Creating a Partnership with Your Doctor When the Diagnosis
is Alzheimer's Disease or a Related Illness
If
you are providing care for someone with Alzheimer's disease or a related
illness, you know that there are many challenges to face. Getting
the best health care for your loved one can be one of the most frustrating
of these challenges. There are so many questions to ask, so many things
to learn. It's easy to get overwhelmed.
One
of the best ways to get good, accurate information is to ask your
doctor. However, a recent Alzheimer's Association nationwide survey
found that the caregivers of family members with Alzheimer's disease
are not receiving all the information they want from primary care
doctors, even though doctors believe that they are meeting caregivers'
needs.
The
Alzheimer's Association understands how important it is to you to
get good health care for your loved one, and we want to help. In partnership
with the California Department of Health Services, we created "A Caregiver's
Workshop" to help caregivers understand what good health care is and
how to develop a partnership with their loved one's doctor to get
the best care possible.
Who should attend?
This workshop is
designed for non-professionals who are providing care for someone
with Alzheimer's disease or a related illness.
Cost
Thanks to a grant
from the California Department of Health Services, there is no cost
to attend the workshop.
You will receive:
- A Working
With Your Doctor brochure with helpful information on diagnosis,
examples of questions to ask the doctor, contact information for
community resources, and more.
- Easy to use
worksheets that will help you keep track of your loved one’s behaviors,
medications, and your concerns and questions between doctor visits.
- Confidence
building strategies on how you can work with the doctor to build
a partnership that will help your loved one receive the best possible
health care.
